Remember to breathe between bites: eating quickly could cause diabetes and obesity. In a study of more than 4,000 people, Japanese scientists have discovered that people who swallow the food are more likely to suffer from obesity and insulin resistance (two signs of future diabetes) than those who eat more slowly.
Researchers are not sure why eating quickly is related to insulin resistance, but more studies are planned to determine the underlying mechanism. Would you have to put the brakes on the table? Rate It yourself.
Participants in the study were assigned to the category of eating fast or slow depending on how they themselves had rated their eating.
